Within our strong school community, we provide a high standard of education and, with parental involvement, we work towards creating a learning environment which builds confidence and empowers children. We strive to be welcoming, respectful of difference and aware of environmental and social issues. .

We have been awarded three Green Flags from ‘An Taisce’, which is given to schools that are environmentally friendly, and we are hoping to get a fourth next year. We have a Green Council in the school, which consists of children and a teacher who work very hard on our behalf to make sure that we stay environmentally friendly.

As with all multi-denominational schools, the school is founded on four core principles:

  1. It is MULTI-DENOMINATIONAL, i.e. open to all children of all or no religions, and the social, cultural and religious background of each class is to be equally respected.
  2. It is CO-EDUCATIONAL, i.e. the school is open to boys and girls on an equal basis ensuring that they are actively integrated, and sexual stereotyping is avoided, both in attitude and teaching materials.
  3. It is CHILD-CENTERED, i.e. the school aims to be a place where a child’s quest for growth, self-development and knowledge is fully acknowledged, facilitated and encouraged.
  4. It is DEMOCRATICALLY RUN i.e. it is run by management committees, which are democratically elected and run, and the involvement of all parents is sought and encouraged.

The school follows the Revised National Curriculum as laid out by the Department of Education and Science. As we are restricted for PE, we go swimming for 7 weeks, as part of the PE curriculum. We use the hall in the National Stadium beside us for P.E. for some of the year and the rest of the time we use the playground for outdoor games, activities and gymnastics. We also have a number of after school activities. This year (2010/11) we have Drama, Soccer, Hurling, Yoga, Ball Skills, Guitar, Spanish, Athletics (during term 3),
